Former Imperial Palace

Being the imperial palace of Ming and Qing Dynasties,it was called the Purple Forbidden City in the past.During the over-500-year period from 1406 to 1949,24 emperors had had the palace repeatedly renovated.
 
The 35-metre-high and 63-metre-wide Taihe Hall is the largest and the No. 1 major construction in the Former Imperial Palace. Beijing the largest wood-constructioned hall in China, it was the site where emperors held importand ceremonies.
 
Jinluan Hall Inside Taihe hall are 86 huge gold-plated columns with entwining dragons, elegantly carved dragon-patterned caisson ceiling and gold-paint-washed imperial throne with carved dragons. The Hall looks sumptuous and gorgeous.
 
Situated in the rear part of the Former Imperial Palace, the Imperial Garden was the place where emperous,empresses and imperial concubines recreated. The delicate constructions and the elegantly seclude environment show the luxurious and splendid characteristics of the imperial garden.Picture shows the uniquely shaped Qianqiu Pavilion.
